TWICE or thrice had I loved thee,
Before I knew thy face or name ;
So in a voice, so in a shapeless flame
Angels affect us oft, and worshipp'd be.
Still when, to where thou wert, I came,
Some lovely glorious nothing did I see...

- Excerpt from "Air and Angels", John Donne

I love the quote you chose to accompany your painting. It is emotionally very amusing. The angel reminds me a bit of Haldir from the Lord of the Rings.

*fave'd* ... A lovely, glorious something, that's what I see. The subtle emotion of his taking her into the air conveys a quiet, deeper love, one that ought to endure from one Val Day to many more.

She's escaping, or being rescued from, the flowers (emblematic of this world? of life before death?) without their pulling at her. I suspect that any degree of struggle between his guidance and that foliage would have subtly ruined the mood. Or a stronger "wind" than the gentle one you use here.

I'm not always fond of angels being shown with ambiguous sexuality, even in part, as his facial features (but not his musculature) suggest to me. Yet it works here, perhaps with the resonances between their faces, as to shape and mutual attention.

A gentle valediction, indeed. Thanks for taking such care with your title and your choice of a Donne epigraph. That attention is truly uncommon at any site such as this.

I just hope I win that book in your drawing {sigh}

This fave is part of my "Do a Turnover of My Recent Favorites, with Comments, Catching Up on Overdue Recognition, as an Alternative to the Stupor Bowl" initiative. What better way to get a diversion from the Bread and Circuses spectacle? (It's certainly better than the much-vaunted commercials being shown this afternoon.)
