:new: ORIGINAL PAINTING NOW UP FOR AUCTION! [link]
| Prints, Original Art, and Products :pointr: [link] |
TWICE or thrice had I loved thee,
Before I knew thy face or name ;
So in a voice, so in a shapeless flame
Angels affect us oft, and worshipp'd be.
Still when, to where thou wert, I came,
Some lovely glorious nothing did I see...

- Excerpt from "Air and Angels", John Donne

So what part of angelic hierachy is the angel from? He sure seem like he belong with some high feather-balls alright! XD Also one of my favorite's from the book! X3

I always imagined him to be a guardian angel for the woman.:)

I love the quote you chose to accompany your painting. It is emotionally very amusing. The angel reminds me a bit of Haldir from the Lord of the Rings.

*fave'd* ... A lovely, glorious something, that's what I see. The subtle emotion of his taking her into the air conveys a quiet, deeper love, one that ought to endure from one Val Day to many more.

She's escaping, or being rescued from, the flowers (emblematic of this world? of life before death?) without their pulling at her. I suspect that any degree of struggle between his guidance and that foliage would have subtly ruined the mood. Or a stronger "wind" than the gentle one you use here.

I'm not always fond of angels being shown with ambiguous sexuality, even in part, as his facial features (but not his musculature) suggest to me. Yet it works here, perhaps with the resonances between their faces, as to shape and mutual attention.

A gentle valediction, indeed. Thanks for taking such care with your title and your choice of a Donne epigraph. That attention is truly uncommon at any site such as this.

I just hope I win that book in your drawing {sigh}

This fave is part of my "Do a Turnover of My Recent Favorites, with Comments, Catching Up on Overdue Recognition, as an Alternative to the Stupor Bowl" initiative. What better way to get a diversion from the Bread and Circuses spectacle? (It's certainly better than the much-vaunted commercials being shown this afternoon.)

I love the fact you've caught on to a deeper narrative in this piece. There's definitely a connection between these two, though they are never quite touching and never quite on the same plane of existence. He sits right well in the section on Guardian angels section of my book, which opens him up to all kinds of interpretations. A Guardian who has fallen in love with his charge? A Guardian selecting a new angel for ascension?

Who can say? I love it when people make up their own stories.:D

Thanks be to you for leaving such wonderful comments for me to gnaw on.

You should post them! I don't know why but creatures with wings are just so beautiful to me especially butterflies! I thought it was very creative combining butterfly wing patterns on feathery angel wings! Very unique!!! I am very fascinated by eyes and I like making my creatures have insanely long eye lashes...I wanna do a series incorporating this somehow,,,hehe here is a couple links of some sketches I did...

I really like the eyelash effect. It's very cool and pretty unique as far as faerie embellishments go as well! Should definitely keep going with these! They're great.:)
