Description

I haven't uploaded much lately so I thought I'd share one of the projects I've been working on in the shadows. I designed this webpage from scratch for ~blacksent to promote their fantasy novel series, which I've also done illustrations for.

This is just the page listing all the characters with anchored links to each one when you click their name. Other pages include a list of the books in the series, about the author, links to favorite works and affiliates, maps of Blacksent, and more!

Michael wanted something simple and clean with a dark mood. Built in photoshop, coded in Dreamweaver, all simple rollover images and tables. Web design isn't my main forte anymore, but I'm rather pleased with the navigation for this one.

Hey Ang....

Can't fault this much, it's simple and user-friendly and the cover art in itself makes for an awesomely lovely masthead. Just one thing, though: u might want to explore 1 or 2 other ways to list and introduce the characters. Right now this list running down the centre doesn't make for an ideal layout -- it looks slightly, yknow, half-done. Also u might notice that serif fonts don't read well on all screens. which is why a lot of sites keep em to a minimum. To keep that organic and earthy feel, why not try sanserif fonts like Optima for body text or Herculanem (which only comes in all caps, i think) for headers. You can still hv the loverly quotes by the characters in serif or even a nice simple script for that little fluorish.

Perhaps u can even propose to Michael a Flash-aided website where u can have a slightly more dynamic and clean menu, and each persona can have his/her own page. oh, its hard to explain what i have in mind, i'd have to sketch it out. but basically im thinking, since it is a novel & all, why not have a simple Flash flip-menu where u can click on different characters on the left page of an open book and on the right page the character + details appears.

(like i said its hard to explain, dammit...haha)

but it's a great start. and hey, if that's all he requires there's not much for u to do. except maybe for ur own portfolio if u ever wanna do web or multimedia design as a side thingy.

(btw i suck at macromedia flash, dreamweaver, and anything that requires programspeak. i may have ideas but i'm horrid at details...lol!)

but it's great that u have that celtic-inspired design running below the masthead. it's a simple nice element that can carry thru-out the entire website. it's called design language hehe. makes a big difference. sorta holds the entire look together, yknow what i mean.
