Aurora: Day Line Art by AngelaSasser Aurora: Day Line Art by AngelaSasser

:new: This original ink drawing is currently for sale on Etsy!

Inspired by an art challenge over at :iconfreelancers:. The challenge: Emulate an artist of your choice. I chose Alphonse Mucha, one of the most celebrated masters of Art Neauvou. I've always admired his ability to depict his figures with such grace, flowing line style, and intricacy so I was really excited to try my hand at Mucha's style.

I chose Aurora Adonai, one of my favorite subjects to draw. Since her name roughly means "Light of God", I figured she'd be the perfect candidate for the "Day" half of this small series. Next up: Arashiko as "Night".

Color coming soon via copic markers! I'm thinking she'll be lovely in a rich red/purple/yellow sunset scheme:heart:

Mircon pens. 8.5x11 inches, 10 hours.

AHEM. Excuse me missus. *pokes with the pokey stick of doom* You've nicked my upcoming project for Aurora. I was going to do her in an art nouveau style for you. *pokes again* But.. I guesss you've done her so well I can't complain, I'll have to get my thinky head on and come up with something else, or try and think of a new take on Art Nouveau. I can't even begin to think of how long all that inking must ahve taken you, especially with the repeating design round the edge. I know through that piece I showed you for the Artists for Charity gallery I started that doing those designs by hand is tedious. You've gotta admire Mucha for his patience if nothing else! Love the composition with the swrod at the top, breaking up the circle, and the flwoiness of her body is great too. Can't wait to see it coloured. Don't go too over the top with the saturation whe you colour it though.. and if you're going for sunsetty colours, try just a touch of turquoises or murky browns in it, Mucha's colour sense is almost as genius as his eye for flow and detail.

Ohh I'm sorry, SamXD I thought you were doing the scary Aury with the horns and the fans with a sort of cyber punk/nouveau style. I think you could still do it since it'll be an entirely different concept and I'd loove to see you do it! Plus, you're the master of mixing different styles to form something amazing and unique! Like the Mae piece for example. Whatever you end up doing, I'm sure it'll be awesome:nod:

I'm already running into problems whilst coloring this since it's so easy to get too detailed with the way I color and the only two reds I have are very overwhelming. Must think in flatter, softer terms! *hits self*. I'm coloring on a printed out version, though, so I'll at least have the untarnished original piece should it not work out. I might even try it in color pencil instead if the marker comes out horrible. we'll just have to see what happens.

ooh... doing it in a similar style to Mae might very well be much fun... *makes notes* but with a darker colour scheme.. reds and indigos, with more black... mmm... And I can imagine that markers might push it into the brighter tones. *wants to see the finished article*

Ohh yes reds and indigos sound lovely. I've actually dumped the marker colored version of this piece for the color pencil version. The marker came out too saturated and intense which overpowered the line work. The pencils are much softer and more mucha-esque. Sooon I'll have the background done and it shall be finished! (neglecting that book cover is baaad..but productive>_>;)

Very well done. It's nice to see the refined lines for this. I really like the detail on this as well as the realistic proportions. Not a bad outfit either ^_~ Hope to see this colored. You're getting much better at conveying natural movement and your inking's gone up as well.
