:new:Refined the sketch even more today. Fixed the hand, straightened and refined the staff, finalized the anatomy, added more interaction between wing and back muscle, and straightened up the roses a bit. Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions, you guys! I think I'm going for a rusty reddish brown earth tone color scheme with white glowy roses and brown wings for this piece:D Now...on to the coloring!!!:new:

You guessed it! It's the next archangel for my portfolio, the Archangel Uriel, the archangel of the earth. The concept behind this picture was to depict an angel weighed down with the heavy responsibility of guarding the gates of Hell, yet still he stands, ever vigilante and strong while the ages pass around him. Uriel means Light of God, and he is indeed a light in those depths so closest to the root of the earth farthest from Heaven. There he waits undertaking his duty with all the grace and strength imbued in him by the creator till the day when he will destroy the gates of Hell and begin Heaven's reign. This rendition is a tad different than the traditional, but something that just sort of came to me.

 I think this is my fave even over my patron, Michael. Sorry Mikey. I dug out some older poses of our very adrogynous male model in Life Drawing class and found this divine profile pose. After transferring it a few times and playing with a composition thumbnail, I came up with this working draft. If it's too muddled in this smaller format to see, those are rose vines growing around his wings, arms, torso, and the like. He's also holding a dual-bladed spear. I'm seeing alot of red for this piece in the drapery and white for his wings. But should this all be monotone red or something else? I'm open to suggestions^^ I do know that his halo will be the brightest area of this picture.

Now comes the hard part. What colors to use, what mediums to use? Digitally colored (which would require inking), watercolor (which would also require inking), or colored pencil? I could do alot of playing with the light effects in this if I did it on the computer, but the pencils provide such a rich depth of color and watercolors give that appropriate ethereal feel with their translucency. I probably could mix watercolor and pencil together. GAAAH  ....suggestions in that respect are welcome as wellXD
